The trees are now bare
The discarded leaves clutter the floor
Some trees bow, leaning
Like they are trying to re-claim their former occupants
The birds, the ducks and swans
Gather around, oblivious to your absence
Not noticing I’m alone
No squirrels came to greet me
Nothing has changed here
On the surface, but it has undoubtedly
It’s a little darker
The colours are not clear, silence
I too mourn the fallen leaves
I have sympathy with the bare and empty branches
We mourn our losses in silence
They will have company again but will I?
The first time you walk alone around where you took your dog everyday for years can be a killer. Time passes and now I can remember him happily and not like with a kick to the stomach. Fifteen days after his very sudden leaving my life changed completely.
